Pieces and movement

Move rules
- Castling is not allowed.
- Pawn double-step moves are disabled.
- A piece may not move to a square where it would have no legal future movement.

Promotion
- Promotions are available in the configured promotion zones. The the promotion region for White is all the ranks from 7 to 9 and the promotion region for Black is all the ranks from 3 to 1.
- The pieces that can promote are: shogi pawn (p), knight (n), bishop (b), rook (r), archbishop (c) and chancellor (m).
- Fixed promotion mappings: p promotes to g, n promotes to e, b promotes to h, r promotes to t, c promotes to i and m promotes to s.
- Piece promotion is mandatory where promotion is legal.
Winning and losing
- A flag/goal-zone win is active for piece(s) k.
- Stalemate is scored as a loss for the side to move.
Draws and adjudication
- There is no automatic n-move/50-move draw rule.
